Rezart Taci or Rollo Tommasi? The Young, the Bald and the Diving.
By: Ben | July 28th, 2009
The name Rezart Taci looms over Bologna Calcio as the smog does the city. The name sparks something vaguely reminiscent of the imaginary Rollo Tommasi of James Ellroy’s LA Confidential. The crook who got away with it; the offender who is never held accountable, the true man of teflon.
Not to say that Albanian oil tycoon Rezart Taci is a crook; yet the purchase of 80% of Bologna’s shares for the sum of 20 million euros is nothing short of criminal. What bothers me is that the phantom materialized amidst the storm of Moggi’s “consultation” dinners with the Menarini’s. The puppeteer had returned, and the Menarini’s were responsible for his premature return…
Shortly thereafter the initials RT branded themselves into the minds and hearts of all the faithful. The question remains: who is the man? All that is known is that he made his waves in petroleum, and the fierce statement “Our objective is to strengthen the team and we will spend aggressively in order to make the team competitive.” Evidence of which remains to come…
I am not a xenophobe, racist or bigot by any means: a fierce skeptic? Yes. I fear the motivations of a little known petrol-man, I fear the double headed eagle crest on the Albanian flag and I fear the reasons for the swiftness of the Menarini’s sale of majority shares. Yet as Orson Welles so elegantly put: “In Italy for thirty years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love; they had five hundred years of democracy and peace and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock.” Let’s hope this chaos stirs a Renaissance in Bologna.
Well on a more positive note the stork delivered three new packages. Emiliano Viviano (The Young) the under 21 goal keeper for the Azzurrini, Roberto Guana (The Bald) the combative midfielder from Palermo and Giacomo Tedesco (The Diving) from Catania who famously crumbled to the pitch resulting in the subsequent sending off of Sulley Muntari.
Of the three, Emiliano Viviano is most welcome. It has been too long now that we have relied on the geriatric Antonioli: in youth we will find new roads. Tomorrow the fixtures will be drawn, leaving 25 days for mister Rezart Taci to make good on his claim to spend “aggressively”.

Ben – thank you so much for the post! Great to see. I too am skeptical, and I worry that it may be too late in the market season for those big moves, but we’ll have to see what happens! Keep up the good work – Great to hear about a few acquisitions, and I agree that a young keeper will do us wonders!

Ben: I’m Albanian, a Juve fan and just happened to stumble upon the Bologna Offside. Nice thing you got going here! Just wondering: What do you mean by “I fear the double headed eagle crest on the Albanian flag” lol? You might have heard bad things about some Albanians but most of us ARE really good people. On the RT case now: I think you and all other Bologna fans should be skeptical and somewhat worried by Rezart Taci buying 80% of the team. Not because he is Albanian, or because he is not well-known, but because the man is SHADY. He bought ARMO(the long-lasting formerly government-owned oil company of Albania) from the government(for a sum of 128 million Euros, which he still has not paid) thanks to the powerful political ties he had, merged it with his own oil company and created Taci Oil. Upon finishing the purchase he continued to completely monopolize the market. Now everywhere you go in Albania, you rarely see any other gas stations from other companies, there are only his and his business seems to be ever-growing more powerful. There were just some speculations in the Albanian newspapers that he just made 7 million Euros worth of profit by lying about weather the barrels of oil he imported last month were of refined or unrefined oil. THE MAN IS A MASTER OF CONTRABAND AND SMUGGLES HUUUUUGE AMOUNTS OF OIL ON A CONSTANT BASIS. On the financial side you guys should be happy because Rezart Taci is STUPID RICH. He is not like the Man City arab, or Abramovich, but he is very very wealthy. Albania just had a round of elections in June and he was one of the main financial backers, as he donated a lot to parties and candidates. AC Milan, during the fall came to Albania and played against KF Tirana in a friendly match for the “Taci Oil Cup” or some bullshit like that I think. This was made possible due to RT being “friends” with Galliani and also paying 2-4 million Euros.
Bologna fans should just hope things stay like they are and RT continues to do his “business” under the radar and I think he will invest in the team as he has stated numerous times he loves soccer, especially Italian soccer.

Haha, no Ben it’s all good. It was late when I typed all that and I wasn’t really thinking/processing things that well in my head. Good luck to you on the Offside and to Bologna in the new season. Hopefully a team with as much history as Bologna can return into the European stage as soon as possible, and if RT can make this come true then that would be great. At least he will be known for something good, and not just as a shady Oil tycoon.
