OUT OF THE MUDPIT.
By: Ben | October 19th, 2008
The belly of the Panda has shown fortune upon us today. After much preemptory carping and seething in attempts to soften the dull blow of defeat in a once deafened and seemingly destitute campaign, all was righted in forty five minutes with the heroic strikes of Sergio Volpi and a merciless double by the great Marco Di Vaio.
Six points have propelled us above the Veronese donkeys of Chievo (goal differential) and we now sit three points behind Lecce; whom pulled another apple out of their ass with a draw against the soaring Udinese. Once again that Tiribocchi, that Cro-Magnon cave dweller and his pronounced forehead managed to find the net; on this occasion it was with his four toed boot rather than the hammer blow of his protruding brow.

Yet nothing could be as gratifying as the wet slap of a dish-towel, a cold shower, a black cup of coffee, whatever metaphor you use to paint it, we were that slap of reality, that humbling silence upon the decent of delusion to reality, but most importantly we smote the ill-bred fiends of Rome and toppled the beasts from the head of the food chain.
This was a team that came out with a well organized and potent attack. A team practiced in the ways of possession and movement, this was nothing short of stunning. They were able to control their lead and absorb pressure, forcing Lazio into disjointed play and desperate long bombs in attempts to pick out their target men but most importantly was the professionalism in the waning minutes of the second half. That characteristic of cynicism, the ability to defend a lead and determine the pace and outcome of the game was detrimental. The pure tactical display in the midfield, cutting off the space and lines of passage; Arrigoni finally woke up.
The season is young yet, and Bologna have been graced with another mammoth victory; slowly we climb out of the hellish mud pit of the relegation zone and into the light.

Ben, I would reckon that all of those metaphors, good luck invocations, and holy phrases that you posted last night indeed worked!…..
You asked for goodness to be bestowed upon your team, and the holy forces gave it to you!…..LOL!

Ben, that hate mail might stem from sheer ignorance! I believe that Italian Calcio fans are probably the most knowledgeable fans in the world….when you have knowledge, you can’t spew ignorance out of your soul. Except, for a few people……
