Giving Tree
By: Ben | February 7th, 2009
It doesn’t take a thinker, or a progressive mind or even an education to shine on the sad truths of the late Shel Silverstein’s “The Giving Tree.” As a child it didn’t do for me as say, “The Little Prince” does to the malleable mind; Shel’s greatest perversion beyond Playboy illustrations was maturity or knowledge he bestowed upon millions of impressionable youths but in effect he succeeded in creating the greatest of “children’s” books in the sad tale.
Yes pretty much the human being is a self-involved delinquent, greedy to no end; always willing to have that extra bit of comfort over his neighbor and sadly enough we do not know what we had appreciated until it’s gone. In the giving tree, the grown boy or the adult youth had still a stump from which he could reflect upon the sadness of his many faults of youth. A tree that gives, nothing in my opinion could attempt its equal.
Tomorrow the rossoblu will face a Friulian renaissance, the Zebrette have rediscovered form while Bologna refreshed with some badly needed reinforcements have found that they are still unable to trade blows with the upper echelon. I pray.
